A Streetcar Wedding

I heard about this couple's wedding through my wife who works with a friend of the couple. They are asking that all of their guests donate money toward the streetcar instead of buying them gifts. I think this is an awesome way of showing your support for Cincinnati's downtown. Great job guys!

That's kinda strange for a wedding request. I think the streetcar will make living with children easier in the areas they are implemented. Certainly with baby carriages & herding the spastic ambulatory brood on & off the vehicles.
Wonder if any dying people will follow suit ?

I couldn't help but smile when I read this article. What a great idea, if I were getting married nowish I would consider doing the same thing. Great story, great couple.

Important though a streetcar may be for this couple, it's not a charity. This just doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't think the couple wanted this to look like a charity. They are trying to make a statement. They obviously believe in making downtown a more livable place and they feel that Streetcars are a very important part of that.

My point is simply that some couples ask for donations to a personally meaningful charity in lieu of gifts, and this seems similar on the surface but, of course, this cause is not a charity. I respect the value of making this sort of statement, but the method doesn't make much sense to me.
